Wayfinding is a user-centred design project where students investigate how people navigate environments and how wayfinding information interacts with other environmental factors to make a place ‘legible’. The brief asks students to design a wayfinding system for a public space, exploring ways to support different users’ navigation of these locations, while considering the identity of the environment. Students consider approaches to directional information, issues of typographic hierarchy and the incorporation of pictorial icons. Final outcomes incorporate dual-language wayfinding systems that combine Latin and non-Latin texts.
