Dealing with anxiety, a guide to go through panic · Francisco Miranda

In this project, I produced a range of resources to support dealing with anxiety in the classroom, and their teachers. Information about prevention, dealing with a panic attack, and long-term treatment were organised into a pocket-sized leaflet, a poster, and a microsite. Overall, they provide general information on how to prevent panic attacks associated with anxiety and panic disorders, including a step-by-step guide on how to support someone having a panic attack, helping to calm and reassure them while preventing the situation from escalating, and, finally, instructions on further treatment.

These resources were designed for two audiences: teachers and staff, focusing on taking control of the situation and addressing a comprehensive approach to dealing with the aftermath; and students, directly addressing them in a clear and sensitive language about prevention and treatment.

The leaflets were designed for eight panels of information. The idea was to create a pocket piece that could be carried around or tucked away in a backpack. Students get one leaflet, while teachers and staff get a separate piece with content and language addressing them directly.

The step-by-step guide illustrates, on a human scale, the subject of the episode in context, as well as the procedures involved. Visuals were used to visualise what happens in the body in the case of a panic attack, and interactions between people.
