Steady Minds · Cherise Brooker
Steady Minds is handbook to support people living with epilepsy and those who care for them. Combining a printed guide with a digital resource, the aim of the project was to transform complex neurological and seizure-response information into clear, accessible, and actionable guidance. Designed for use both in everyday self-management and emergency situations, Steady Minds aims to build confidence, reduce anxiety, and help users make informed decisions when clarity matters most.
After researching a range of diagnostic testing kits, epilepsy resources, and digital health tools, I identified a recurring problem: much of the existing information was text-heavy, medically complex, and difficult to navigate during moments of stres

It was essential to establish a consistent visual style that would carry through the entire project. The first spread created was the Home Triggers spread, designed to give users a clear overview of the potential factors within the home environment that may affect individuals living with epilepsy.
The resulting outcome, Steady Minds, combines educational content, seizure awareness, self-management strategies, and emergency response guidance within a carefully structured publication. The guide is supported by a digital companion concept that extends the user journey through seizure tracking and ongoing monitoring.

A key focus throughout the project was information architecture. The structure of the content informed both the editorial design and the physical navigation system. Colour-coded sections, clear page furniture, visual hierarchy, and tabbed navigation help users quickly locate information and move through the guide with confidence. This approach was particularly important when designing for situations where users may be anxious, overwhelmed, or responding to a seizure event.
