Health and life sciences wayfinding · Leda Smila

This project presents a user-centred wayfinding strategy for the Health & Life Sciences Building at the University of Reading. It addresses key challenges such as unclear spatial organisation, inconsistent signage, and a lack of visual hierarchy—issues that can hinder navigation for first-time visitors, students, and staff alike. Through on-site analysis and mapping, the design introduces a clear signage strategy and a colour-coded visual language: green for public areas, orange for laboratories, yellow for study spaces, and dark green for office zones. A layered wayfinding system includes isometric and floor-by-floor maps, that improves orientation, reduces cognitive load, and enhances the overall user experience within the building.
