Ecological confusion | Maddi Almond
Ecological Confusion is a hybrid publication that exists both as a physical book and an online platform. The two are connected through QR codes, allowing readers to move fluidly between print and digital formats.

The project functions like a bespoke search engine for the environment. It brings together data from open-access sources such as the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, aiming to make complex ecological information easier to explore and understand.

Each physical book is entirely handmade. Every page is treated as an individual artwork, making each copy completely unique. Eco-friendly inks, recycled paper, and a glueless binding method were used to minimise environmental impact and reinforce the project’s themes.
This project is a response to the overwhelming landscape of climate and biodiversity data available online — a publication that reframes complex data and articles as tactile, visual experiences, inviting readers to navigate ecological complexity with curiosity and care.
