Helping patients with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers | Maksim Lialin
This information design project transforms health data and aims to improve the quality of life for those affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia. I designed a handbook for Alzheimer’s caregivers and a website for newly diagnosed patients.
Handbook
The caregiver’s handbook is a small 20-page book that’s easy to carry around for occasional reference. It covers various aspects of care, from understanding how the diseased brain works to advice on organizing home space.
Information was aggregated from NHS websites as well as foundations and organizations researching Alzheimer’s disease. Texts were condensed, keeping only the main points, and simplifying the language so caregivers could easily grasp the content. The texts are complemented by colorful infographics and images that make the information even more accessible. This approach makes the learning process more engaging and effective for those just starting to navigate life with Alzheimer’s.
Website
The interactive landing page was designed specifically for newly diagnosed patients, helping them get acquainted with their new diagnosis.
The site consists of 5 sections, each representing one of the steps towards understanding their diagnosis and preparing for their future life with it.
While the information is similar to the handbook, it’s adapted from a patient’s perspective and enhanced with animations and interactive elements.
