I am Queer I am Here | Ryann Carney
I am Queer I am Here is a printed and digital publication dedicated to queer stories and queer history. It takes inspiration from an online practice known as web weaving, in which users combine snippets from various pieces of media together with similar themes, exploring their commonalities. The internet has given voice to a more diverse range of queer experiences than ever before. By seeing these experiences together, online space has the power to expand understanding of what the queer experience looks like.
I am Queer I am Here contains fifty queer stories sourced from the platform Queering the Map, as well as their geographic locations. The stories are paired with fifty photos from the LGBTQ+ community, sourced from various public domain archives.
The physical publication is double bound using a wire binding and split pages. This allows the reader to have a unique experience as they compare and juxtapose story, place, and image.
In the digital version of the publication (iamhereiamhere.cargo.site) the non-linear nature of the printed publication is expressed via a two-column independent scroll, allowing users to create their own unique combination of story and image.
