MA Communication Design student work

Typeface Design

The typeface design project spans the three terms, and results in a substantial typeface family with design challenges across script coverage, and styles, weights, and optical sizes. Projects arise from real user needs, and are expected to engage with typographic, material, and cultural contexts, with sensitivity to both technical constraints and the multi-faceted human environments in which they will operate. Projects involve developing research and testing methodologies, and may require research with primary sources: manuscripts or historical printing, materials archives, and documentation for other projects.

These projects encapsulate intensive learning, combining practice and research, and prepare students to be accomplished designers with excellent collaboration skills, and the ability to engage with the discourse in our field.
